Susan Cher: Michelle Obama new chief of staff is Susan Cher

The White House has announced the new Chief of Staff of First Lady Michelle Obama. She is Susan Cher, a lawyer from Washington, DC who has been with the Obamas since the campaign. Cher replaces replaces Jackie Norris who moves on to the position of Senior Advisor to the Corporation for National and Community Service in the Obama administration.

According to the announcement, Susan Cher has been a long-time friend of Michelle Obama. She has released a statement saying that Susan has been her “colleague” since the “days of the Iowa
campaign.” The First Lady also said that Susan’s contribution to issues of national importance has been tremendous. In her words, Susan has been a “trusted advisor, longtime mentor and friend dating back to my work at the city of Chicago and later the University of Chicago.”

This is not the first White House assignment for Cher though. She has been there in the East and West wings of the White House in the capacity of a legal counsel. Susan has released a statement confirming her new position and said that she appreciates “the opportunity to be of greater service to her and this Administration.”

Obama, Biden new fave hamburger? Ray’s Hell Burger! (video)

obama biden hamburger, obama rays hell burgerLooks like Obama and Biden have a new hamburger haunt in Washington, DC – Rays Hell-Burger. Obama and Biden had lunch at the hamburger joint recently and it was heavily covered by the media, as always. And you know what that means, free advertisement for Ray’s Hell-Burger and that is very good for business.

But Ray’s Hell-Burger doesn’t really need it. It’s been getting very good reviews from the press ever since it was featured by the Washington Post’s Jane Black as the best burger in DC. In her feature she wrote:

For $6.95, you get a 10-ounce burger made of hand-trimmed prime beef (including juicy scraps from nearby Ray’s the Steaks), corn on the cob, and a slice of watermelon. There are only a few seats and no fries here. But who needs ‘em?

President Obama and VP reportedly came in like ordinary patrons. Well, not exactly. With a coterie of Secret Service Agents in tow, that’s not exactly ordinary. But they reported lined up like all the others, paid for their orders (though the cashier offered to comp Obama and party) and they waited for their numbers to be called.

And what did the two most powerful men in America order? For Biden, it was cheese burger with Jalapeño peppers. And for Obama, “”Just a basic cheddar cheese burger. Medium-well. I just want mustard, no ketchup; do you got like a spicy mustard, or a Dijon mustard or somethin’ like that? Lettuce. Tomato.”

Looking for an online review of Ray’s Hell-Burger, I found the following at DC Foodies:

As you may have guessed, what really caught my attention was the impressive list of cheeses that Ray’s offers. Sure, you can get quality basics like Gruyere, Vermont cheddar, smoked mozzarella and Danish blue for $1, but you can also go all out and top your burger with imported Brie, Italian Taleggio or even Epoisses for $1.50 to $4 each. A hint: make sure to ask about what other cheeses and toppings are available when you get to the counter. Although Epoisses was not listed on the chalkboard when we visited, it was available to anyone who asked.

My burger was delicious, if a bit messy. The size of the patty is a blessing on the grill, allowing it to cook through and develop a dark, meaty crust without sacrificing the juicy, pink interior. Unfortunately, the size becomes a liability on the plate – Ray’s recommends cutting their burgers in half to make them more manageable. I did, but the burger’s juices still turned my bun to mush in minutes. It was a small price to pay for a depth of flavor that I haven’t experienced in any other burger here in Washington. The grilled corn on the cob and fresh sliced watermelon that accompany each burger free of charge gave the whole meal a great cook-out feel.

Cinco de Quatro?: Pres. Obama’s Cinco de Quatro video

Was it a joke or a gaffe? Cinco de quatro? He he. President Barack Obama said that it was Cinco de Quatro in the White House referring the the Mexican holiday of Cinco de Mayo (May 5). He then said that they do everything in advance in the White House and, since it was only the fourth of May it was appropriate. Wrong! Because cinco de quatro means ‘5 of 4′. It should have been cuatro de Mayo, right? Well, Mr. Obama, you’re forgiven for that gaffe (joke). At least, you’re way, way better than the previous president who always had one every time he opened his mouth!

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for “fifth of May”) is a regional holiday in Mexico, primarily celebrated in the state of Puebla, with some limited recognition in other parts of Mexico. The holiday commemorates the Mexican army’s unlikely defeat of French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín.

Michelle Obama portrait / Michelle Obama sleeveless portrait

The White House has released the official portrait of Michelle Obama, First Lady of the United States. Taken in the Blue room of the official residence of the First Family by photographer Joyce N. Boghosian, it shows Michelle in a black sleeveless dress by Michael Kors and wearing two strands of pearls on her neck complimented by pearl earrings. Simplicity is the theme of this portrait, a true Michelle Obama signature (though the retail price of that Michael Kors dress is reportedly ($3,195). The sleeveless look has also been a signature style of the First Lady ans she is often seen in public wearing such a dress style
(more recently on the covers of Vogue and People) and seemingly flaunting those toned arms.
