It’s finale time once again in one of our favorite reality series as the latest Amazing Race winds down. Meghan and Cheyne, Sam and Dan, Brian and Ericka. These are the three teams left after the Globetrotters were eliminated last week. Who will it be? And what will the final challenge be? Will it be a physical task or something more cerebral? Let’s wait and see.

On paper, it looks like the race will be between the teams of Meghan and Cheyne and Sam
and Dan. They’re the two winningest teams of the season with the former getting the upper hand. The latter, meanwhile, almost always placed second and vice versa. What Meghan and Cheyne lack in brawn, they make up for with quick thinking and teamwork.

Brian and Ericka, meanwhile, may be the sentimental favorites for some. And with the way they overcame the odds to make it to the finale despite a huge deficit in the previous leg has endeared them to Amazing Race fans some more.

Another week, another Amazing Race 15 episode. This time its the third leg of the new season where the reams will still be in Vietnam faced with different challenges. According to the online spoilers, the third leg will be around Ho Chi Minh City. But beyond that info, nothing else can be found online.

Having eliminated two pairs already in its first two episodes/legs, this season’s Amazing
Race edition looks like a tough one. And some of the tasks in the first two legs were physically challenging as well. Did you see the mud task wherein they had to get nutrient mud from the river bank to a tree several meters away. That one looks tiring! Not only were they knee deep in mud, their partner had to carry pail loads of the stuff back and forth to the designated tree. And the duck challenge? That spelled doom for some of the contestants. Looked pretty easy enough on paper but herding small ducks on time limit was really tough!

I wonder what challenges await the Amazing Race 15 contestants this time around. One task involves a giraffe statue which Zev and Justin accidentally smashed, and another involves dismantling old electronics appliances (at that’s what it looks like in the preview). Unbeaten Emmy winner Amazing Race opened its first two episodes in a tw-hour premiere that stunned many of its fans with an unprecedented result – elimination right at the starting point. Yup, there was a challenge right at the starting blocks and the pairs that did not pass the challenge was eliminated, even before they had a chance to really “race”.

Looking for the first leg results/episode 1 recap of Amazing Race 15? Here is the Amazing Race 15 episode 1 results/recap of the first (and second) legs. The race is on!

Teams had to search over 1000 license plates for a license plate for Shinagawa, Tokyo – their first destination. The name of their destination (品川) was given in the clue. Teams had to bring their chosen plates to Phil at the mat and, if they were correct, they would receive tickets for one of two flights to Tokyo, Japan. If they were incorrect, then they must go back and keep on trying to locate thousands of license plates with a specific Japanese symbol. The team left without a flight at the end would be eliminated. Only 11 license plates were available so that meant one team was going to miss the race. Eric and Lisa, married yoga teachers had the distinct honor of being eliminated right at the starting blocks.

After arriving at Narita, their first stop in Japan was the Tokyo Tower Studios where another Roadblock was waiting. One team member had to play in a Japanese-style game show called Sushi Roulette. Once the teams were all together, the host would spin a wheel with 9 plates of sushi and 2 wasabi bombs. The team member had to eat whatever was on the plate in front of them. If they ate a wasabi bomb within 2 minutes, they would receive their next clue. If they didn’t get a wasabi bomb or didn’t eat theirs within the 2 minutes, they would have to try again.

After this Roadblock, it’s on to their first Pit Stop for Amazing Race 15. But first, teams must collect 20 Japanese tourists wearing the same colored visors as their flags and usher them to the Pit Stop. Teams can’t check in until all 20 members of their group were present at the mat. Poker players Maria and Tiffany had difficulty in this stage and took the two-hour penalty. Thus, they were lat to check in at the first Pit Stop of Amazing race 15, However, they were glad to fin out that it was a non-elimination leg of the race.

For the second leg of the race (it was a two-hour, two-leg premiere), teams flied to Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. A speed bump for Maria and Tiffany meant they had to collect the ingredients for a Vietnamese soup called phở, find the dockmaster and make the soup for him. Meanwhile, the others had a Rodblock: collect thick nutrient mud to nourish a fruit tree in order to get their next clue. They must transport themselves using sampan across the Mekong Delta for this task.

For the last challenge of this leg, another Roadblock: one team member, using two flags as a guide, had 10 minutes to herd 150 ducks out of their pen, lead them across a bridge and back, and then return them back into their pen. If the team member did not complete it in 10 minutes, they would have to relinquish their spot and wait for another turn. Jessica finished the race last and thus, she and her partner Garrett were eliminated.

Another season of the Amazing Race premieres this week. As always, it will be full of fun and excitement just like the past editions. The fifteenth season spans eight countries in 21 days and introduces new features to the race: One team will be eliminated right at the start and there will be a new twist, the Switchback, where teams will be sent back to one of the series’ most challenging Roadblocks.

The Amazing Race is my top favorite reality competition show. Nothing beats it in excitement as the teams battle each other in wit and physical strength and expose a bit of human drama in the process. Unlike other reality competition shows, this is totally unpredictable. You just don’t know what will happen next, who will be eliminated, who will win. And the pace of the competition is so fierce that you cannot miss a beat.

For Amazing Race this season, dating, engaged and married couples are again part of the group, as well as siblings and friends. One member of the cast is impaired. Zav Glassenberg has Asperger’s syndrome, a mild form of autism. “I don’t think the fact that I have Asperger’s will hinder me,” Glassenberg said. “I do tend to think outside of the box, so it might help us. It’ll be weird going into these social situations around the world. I might not take it all in right away, but I know I’m racing, so I’ll probably get past it really fast.”

The group also includes Nathaniel Lofton and his friend Herbert Lang who believe their experience will deliver them first position in the race. There’s also Sam and Dan McMillen, siblings who both came out and told each other that they were gay; and Miss America 2004 Ericka Dunlap and her husband Brian Kleinschmidt.

The first leg takes them from Los Angeles to Japan. For the first task for the Amazing Race, they have to search for license plates with a phrase in Japanese listed on their clue.

Watch the 2009-2010 Amazing Race 15 premiere (TAR 15 video preview below) this weekend. This season’s Amazing Race 15 / Amazing Race season 15 cast is an exciting bunch of seemingly fierce competitors. I haven’t made up my mind on who to root for but give one or two episodes and choose my team.
