Larry King Retiring From ‘Larry King Live’ In Fall
Larry King will retire as host of CNN’s “Larry King Live” after 25 years, he announced Tuesday evening. King will step down from the program in the fall, but remain with CNN. “I talked to the guys here at CNN and I told them I would like to end Larry King Live, the nightly show, this fall and CNN has graciously accepted, giving me more time for my wife and I to get to the kids’ little league games,” he wrote on his blog. “I’ll still be a part of the CNN family, hosting several Larry King specials on major national and international subjects. “With this chapter closing I’m looking forward to the future and what my next chapter will bring, but for now it’s time to hang up my nightly suspenders,” he added. Earlier Tuesday, the end-of-quarter ratings were released, and King saw his worst quarter ever in Q2 2010, averaging just 674,000 total viewers. CNN Statement: Just as CNN redefined the news business, Larry King defined the art of the television interview. His candor, curiosity and compassion are legendary, and his ability to interview people from all walks of life–world leaders, celebrities and everyday people–has made him an icon. Having conducted nearly 50,000 interviews over 50-plus years in broadcasting, Larry deserves to take some time for himself and his family. After 25 years at CNN, he will conclude Larry King Live on his own terms, sometime this fall. Larry King Divorce OFF– Shawn Southwick, Larry King May Reconcile
The Larry King divorce saga continues. TMZ reports Friday that King and wife Shawn Southwick, who both filed for divorce on Wednesday, reunited Thursday night at their son’s baseball game and are now considering calling the divorce off. The couple has reportedly agreed to go to therapy to save their marriage. TMZ adds: Sources intimately familiar with the situation tell TMZ, Shawn and Larry both say they love each other and both would like to figure out how to work things out, but there’s one little thing standing in the way … Shawn believes Larry is still shtupping her sister. Shawn’s sister, Shannon Engemann, has denied the affair, saying King is “like a father” to her. It wouldn’t be the first time King has pulled the “break up to make up” trick. He married his third wife, Alene Akins twice: once in 1961 (divorced in 1963) and then again in 1967 (divorced in 1972). Larry King Divorce: ‘50/50′ Shawn Southwick & Larry King Make Up, Divorce On Hold
Larry KIng’s divorce is on hold…for now. A lawyer for King, who filed for divorce along with wife Shawn Southwick last week, says there is a 50% chance the couple calls off the divorce for good. “There’s a 50-50 chance this divorce is not happening,” King’s lawyer Dennis Wasser told People. “His focus is on the best interest of his children. It’s not clear to me which way he’s going to turn on this issue.” TMZ reports that King and Southwick have “reached a two-week truce.” Wasser told TMZ that the pair met with a counselor in California on Monday. “Larry and Shawn met with the counselor today,” he said. “It was decided that there will be no divorce activity for 2 weeks as several issues need to be discussed and resolved.” People reports that the couple was “seen walking arm-in-arm Sunday at their son’s baseball game .” Southwick reportedly suspected King of having an affair with her sister, Shannon Engemann..
