Houston and south Texas are going to be hit with some cold weather in the coming days. Friday is forecast for a high of 36 and a low of 22, which is extremely unusual for the region.

… Hard freeze warning remains in effect until 9 am CST Sunday…

… Wind Advisory has expired…

The Wind Advisory is no longer in effect. A hard freeze warning

remains in effect until 9 am CST Sunday.

Temperatures will drop below freezing this evening. Low temperatures

on Friday morning will fall to the lower 20s north of a Columbus to

Conroe to Cleveland line… mid 20s Houston Metro area… and upper

20s to around 30 coastal counties. Strong winds will produce wind

chill values between 5 and 15 degrees late tonight and Friday

morning.

High temperatures on Friday will only range in the lower to mid

30s. High temperatures on Saturday will warm into the upper 30s

to lower 40s. Overnight low temperatures Friday night will fall

into the teens north of a Columbus to Houston to Cleveland line

and in the lower to mid 20s south of this line.

The northern half of southeast Texas north of a line from

Columbus to Conroe to Cleveland will likely endure 36 to

42 consecutive hours of subfreezing temperatures from early

this evening until midday Saturday.

South of this line… including the Houston Metro area… temperatures

will remain below freezing for 16 to 18 hours tonight and

Friday morning… and again Friday night and Saturday morning.

Over the coastal counties… temperatures will remain below

freezing for 12 to 14 hours tonight and early Friday… and

again Friday night and early Saturday.

Precautionary/preparedness actions…

A hard freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are likely.

Residents should prepare for extended periods of freezing

temperatures from late Thursday afternoon through Sunday morning.

These conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

Sensitive plants and animals will require protection. A hard

freeze can cause damage to exposed pipes. Begin making plans for

folks that might need a little extra help… especially the

elderly and the very Young. Extra protective clothing will be

needed for anyone expected to be outdoors at these times.
