Coming back from a heartbreaking loss to the United States last weekend, Honduras won 1-0 at El Salvador on Carlos Pavon’s goal in the 64th minute and qualified for the first time since 1982. The team badly needed a win against El Salvador following that defeat to keep their chances alive. Thus, with the win coupled with the US team’s draw against Costa Rica in the other match played last night, the Honduran team make it to South Africa next summer.

The United States topped the North and Central America and Caribbean region for the second straight qualifying cycle by finishing one point ahead of Mexico. Honduras and Costa Rica were both 5-4-1 but the Catrachos finished third on goal difference.
