It is now only a matter of hours before we find out who will host the 2016 Summer Olympics. The announcement will come in less than twelve hours and there is tension in the air in Copenhagen where the IOC is holding its all-important conference. The same tension (maybe even more) is gripping the residents of the four finalist cities where supporters are gearing up for what they expect to be a day of celebration. Will it be Rio de Janeiro, Chicago,
Tokyo or Madrid?

While many observers acknowledged a couple of days earlier that Chicago is pulling away, now they are saying it is too close to call though the US city is still seen as the front runner with Rio a close second. okyo and Madrid earned the top technical scores during the application phase and are highly recognized national capitals, which lends an increased competitive interest to the final bidding phase. However, recent games held in Asia (2008 Beijing Olympics) and Europe (2004 Athen Games) could hinder their applications. If the Summer Games return to the Americas (for the first time in 20 years), Chicago and Rio de Janeiro have an edge; Rio would become the first South American city to host the Olympics.

The first round of voting will be all-important. According to the IOC’s voting rules, they will eliminate the city with the fewest votes in successive rounds of secret balloting until one city receives a majority. If Tokyo goes out in the first round as expected, where will its supporters go? Madrid may just surprise Chicago and Rio in the second round.

The 2016 Olympics announcement is almost here. Let’s all watch 2016 Summer Olympics announcement and find out: Chicago, Rio de Janeiro, Madrid or Tokyo? As I have said before, my vote goes to Rio for the 2016 Olympics. I Have nothing against the three other cities. But it is about time to spread the blessings to the rest of the world. South America has never hosted the Olympics and the time is now. Rio should win!

Rio Wins!
