Sunderland is currently eighth in the English Premier League standings, West Ham second to the last. After a defeat to Birmingham City last week and a loss (on penalties) to Aston Villa in the League Cup, Sunderland hopes to bounce back against the struggling Eastenders.

West Ham is indeed struggling this season. Despite coming back to secure a draw against Arsenal last time out, the Eastenders remain mired in the bottom three, just two points off the bottom and without a win since the opening day. That’s right, opening day of the EPL 2009 season!

Who will prevail? Sunderland is the favored team here though they should not be too overconfident of a win over West Ham. The Eastenders may be close to the bottom of the standings but they are still capable of a good showing to beat their opponents. Sunderland, meanwhile, will be boosted by the return of Darren Bent from injury.

Possible starters for West Ham United: Green, Upson, Spector, Ilunga, Tomkins, Kovac, Noble, Behrami, Collison, Cole, Diamanti

Possible starters for Sunderland: Gordon, Bardsley, Turner, Ferdinand, Malbranque, Richardson, Henderson, Cana, Reid, Bent, Jones.

Injury laden Everton host Aston Villa for a Premier League match this Saturday (October 31, Kick-off: 15:00 GMT, Goodison Park, Liverpool) for a chance to move up in the standings for both teams. For Villa, A win would propel them higher up than their current seventh position. For Everton, a win would be an enormous morale booster after suffering three straight defeats.

However, Aston Villa is the favorite to win this one. Everton’s record has not been very good
of late: a 2-0 loss to Tottenham, a 3-2 loss to Bolton and that 5-0 humiliation from Benfica.

Possible starters for Aston Villa: Friedel, Cuellar, Collins, Dunne, Warnock, Milner, Sidwell, Petrov, Young, Agbonlahor, Carew.

Possible starters for Everton: Howard, Neill, Heitinga, Distin, Hibbert, Gosling, Fellaini, Rodwell, Cahill, Jo, Saha.

The second round of round robin matches in the 2009 Four Nations Rugby League aka the Gillette Four Nations brings another interesting match up – New Zealand vs France. The French team, eager to prove it is a rugby power despite finishing last in the World Cup, lost its opener to England with a score of 34-12. New Zealand, meanwhile, ended its opening match with neighbors Australia with a 20-20 draw.

New Zealand is the clear favorite in this match up – the world champions against the cellar dwellers in the last World Cup. But with France playing
at home, will that be much of a factor for a win? Can France cause an upset by beating the world champions?
Don’t hold your breath for it. The Kiwis, with so many NRL based players, are a classy outfit and even with injuries looking to deplete their squad they will be too strong for the French.
