US Open 2009: Melanie Oudin vs Wozniacki video highlights
Will Melanie Oudin’s Cinderella story at the 2009 US Open championships continue to the semifinals? Or will her winning streak be snapped by another teenage sensation from Denmark? Melanie Oudin battles Caroline Wozniacki in the US Open quarterfinals next. What result will the Melanie Oudin vs Caroline Wozniacki (video highlights to follow after the match) bring tennis fans at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center? Certainly, almost all of them are looking forward to a win by the latest American tennis sensation. But can she pull off another one?
Melanie Oudin was a relative unknown before Wimbledon 2009. Sure, she played tennis under the USTA and is one of Georgia’s most promising players. But her name didn’t ring a bell with tennis fans until she upset former world number one Jelena Jankovic in Wimbledon. After that, she was hailed as the next American tennis player to watch. And she certainly lived up to that tag when the US Open 2009 got going. With her string of wins and upsets on four Russian players – Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Elena Dementieva, Maria Sharapova and Nadia Petrova – she easily became the darling of the tournament. Had Svetlana Kuznetsova won over Wozniacki, she would have been the fifth straight Russian player Oudin fought in the tournament.
Can Melanie Oudin claim her first Grand Slam semifinal slot? Not if Caroline Wozniacki can help it. It will be the first semifinal appearance for both so expect a gritty fight ahead. We will bring you highlights of the game once the results are available online. Check this page regularly for it.
Update: Melanie Oudin had upset four higher-ranked players – including three-time major champion Maria Sharapova and Beijing Olympic gold medalist Elena Dementieva – to become the youngest quarterfinalist at Flushing Meadows since Serena Williams in 1999. However, her surprising run at the U.S. Open has ended with a 6-2, 6-2 quarterfinal loss to No. 9-seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark.
