Only three days to go before the start of the final Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year. The 2009 US Open tennis tournament will start on August 31, 2009 at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center in New York with the world’s top tennis players aiming to capture one of the
biggest prize money in tennis.

Roger Federer heads the list of top seeds for the men’s singles side of the championship, the spot he wrested from former world number one Rafael Nadal by virtue of his wins at the 2009 French Open and the 2009 Wimbledon. Following him in the rankings are Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Roddick, respectively. Who will win this year? My bet has always been Roger Federer and I hope he wins the title for the sixth straight time. But Andy Murray looks hungry for his first Grand Slam win and he showed us last year that he can reach the finals when he went down to Federer in the title match. Moreover, his recent number two world ranking may serve as his biggest inspiration to date. Most are counting out Rafael Nadal as he is not yet 100% in shape after his injury but you can never tell with Rafa. He may win when least expected, and this is the only Grand Slam title he hasn’t won so that will be his challenge.

On the women’s side, I am for the Williams sisters, with Venus as my ultimate bet. Serena has won the lat three of four previous Grand Slams so it’s now time for Venus to shine. Another sentimental favorite for me is Dinara Safina. many are bashing her reaching number one without a Grand Slam title so it’s time for her to silence her critics.
