Kris Aquino’s touching speech during Cory’s funeral (video)

Former Philippine president Cory Aquino’s funeral yesterday will be remembered for so many things: the turn out of people who joined and watched the funeral procession from the manila Cathedral to the Manila Memorial Park; the sacrifice and dedication people showed by walking the 22 kilometer distance in more than eight hours despite the rains; the outpouring of love through music during and after the requiem mass; the presence of politicos from both sides of the political fence, setting aside their differences all for Cory Aquino. But most of all, it will be remembered for Kris Aquino’s poignant speech to her mom, Cory,
as she said goodbye in behalf of her family, and thanked everybody who supported them in this time of grief.

Kris Aquino has always been one of the more vocal and articulate ones of the Aquino children. And being in show business helped in making her confident and comfortable in front of people. In her speech at their mother’s funeral, we heard how Cory is not as a mother of the nation and an icon of democracy. With words coming from one of her children, we saw Cory as a loving and protective mother who nurtured a family in spite of the trials that they faced and in spite of her responsibilities as a leader of the nation.
