Image:Solar eclipse animate (2009-Jul-22).gifThe longest total eclipse in this century, and will not be surpassed in duration until June 13, 2132. That’s enough of a come-on to drive Asians and the rest of the world delirious with excitement at the prospect of seeing such a phenomenon. And for those in other parts of the world where this event is not visible, live stream of the solar eclipse or at least a video replay will have to do.

The path of the eclipse will start in India and trace a narrow corridor eastward to China then off the southern tip of Japan. For a more exact description, here is what we can expect according to
Wikipedia: “It will be visible from a narrow corridor through northern Maldives, northern India, eastern Nepal, northern Bangladesh, Bhutan, the northern tip of Myanmar, central China and the Pacific Ocean, including the Ryukyu Islands, Marshall Islands and Kiribati.

Totality will be visible in many large cities, including Surat, Vadodara, Bhopal, Varanasi, Patna, Dinajpur, Chengdu, Nanchong, Chongqing, Huanggang, Hefei, Hangzhou, Wuxi, Yichang, Jingzhou, Wuhan, Huzhou, Suzhou, Jiaxing, Ningbo and Shanghai, as well as over the Three Gorges Dam. According to some experts, Taregana in Bihar is the “best” place to view the event. A partial eclipse will be seen from the much broader path of the Moon’s penumbra, including most of South East Asia (all of India and China) and north-eastern Oceania”
