The 2009 Wimbledon top seeds / seedings have been released recently. However, it offers no surprises for the ranking of players competing in the biggest Grand Slam of the year due to start in a few days time. As expected, the current world number 1s, Rafael Nadal and Dinara Safina, are the top seeds in the men’s and women’s (ladies’) singles, respectively. However, Nadal’s fitness for the championship is still questionable having pulled out of the tune-up grass tournaments due to his injured knee. Will he be able to defend his title this year? Or will roger Federer be the top favorite should Nadal pull out?

The seeds in any major tennis championship is important for it determines a players path to the finals. The seeds, together with the draw, will determine if a player will have a rather easy finals run or if he will be pitted against strong opponents on the way to the finals.
