Wimbledon 2009 results: Leyton Hewitt upsets Del Potro
Jun 25th
Leyton Hewitt has caused the biggest in Wimbledon so far this year, beating Juan Martin del Potro in straight sets with a score of 6-3 7-5 7-5. Del Potro, seeded number 5 at the tournament, was seen as somewhat of a threat to Roger Federer’s sixth title quest this year, along with Andy Murray. However, Hewitt, a former Wimbledon champion himself, had other plans.
Right from the start, the Australian some have nicknamed “the mongrel” because of his scrappy play, dictated the play. He was his old self on Centre Court running after every ball and making
his opponent earn points rather than giving it to them for free through errors. And, taking advantage of del Potro’s height, he used more of his sliced returns to make the ball bounce low. The strategy payed off as the Argentinian had a hard time across the net. True, he showed flashes of brilliance with booming returns and played the lines with his huge serves but Leyton’s scrappy play dictated almost every point.

Perez Hilton getting punched pic: snapped as he gets punched
Jun 25th
Looks like the Perez Hilton getting punched issue hasn’t died down. Interest on the incident is still high on the web despite all the articles, blog posts and videos we have seen. Now, there’s a purported picture of the instant Perez Hilton gets punched circulating the internet. Though some have questioned its authenticity, I think it’s genuine.
From a site called drinktheglitter.com, the picture of what looks like the exact time of impact is posted as submitted by one of its readers. You can clearly see the fist right next to Hilton’s face with the
celebrity blogger screaming his head off. Ha ha ha. I wish it was a video so we could hear his scream (must be a real fag scream). Also captured in the photo is Lady Gaga who was shoved towards the crowd because of the altercation.
The incident happened in Toronto at a party right after the MuchMusic Awards (winners list here) where Perez allegedly called Will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas a f*gg*t. This led to the punching incident. At first, it was alleged that Will.i.am was the one who punched the celebrity blogger (he denied it through video) but it was later revealed that it was Polo Molina, the Black Eyed Peas road manager. He later turned himself in and was charged with assault. A video of the incident also surfaced two days ago.

USA vs Spain soccer: USA beats Spain in semis (video)
Jun 25th
Nobody gave them chance as the USA faced Spain in Confederations Cup soccer. After all, the Americans are ranked 14th in the world facing one of the powerhouses in the sport. Moreover, Spain is on a 15-game winning streak that dates back to 2006. However, despite these odds, USA beat Spain with a score of 2-0 in the Confederations Cup semi-finals. They will face either Brazil or South Africa in the finals.
Watch the video highlights of the USA vs Spain soccer match below and see how the Americans won. Understandably, the soccer world is
stunned by these results as nobody expected them to win. What’s even more ironic is that the Americans were on the verge of elimination last week. Now, one more win will give them their much-sought soccer glory. But even if they lose in the Confederations Cup finals, this is already a great achievement for team USA. By winning the semis, the United States soccer team advanced to its first men’s FIFA final since starting play in 1916.

World of Warcraft freakout video: boy goes crazy over Warcraft
Jun 23rd
This is a good one. We know how addicting World of Warcraft can be. Many of us have played the game and we know the feeling. But watch this video as a boy freaks out when his parents cancel his World of Warcraft account. It’s actually quite hilarious and scary at the same time. Good thing I snapped out of my video game addiction before something like this happened to me. The video has been called the “greatest freak out ever!”
You what’s so funny about this? For one thing, was he trying to stuff the remote into his ass? Ha ha. And despite all his shouting and ranting, when his dad told him to shut up, he suddenly became quiet. Now that’s a good boy.
UPDATE: The World of Warcraft Patch 3.2.2 download has just been released. Get more details at the link provided.

GLAAD vs Perez Hilton vs GLAAD: apology demanded by both
Jun 23rd
Perez Hilton used the “F” word on Will.i.am during their encounter and it was caught on tape. The celebrity blogger was heard calling the Black Eyed Pea a f*gg*t and that’s a no-no for GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation). The organization is demanding an apology from Perez for using the highly offensive gay slur. So far, the black-eyed P(erez) isn’t budging. Hey, Perez, how does it feel to be in the hot seat this time? He he.
GLAAD issued the following statement to TMZ: “We have reached out to Hilton and asked
him to apologize for promoting this anti-gay slur, and we would ask media outlets to avoid repetition of the slur in their coverage of this story.
For someone in our own community to use it to attack another person by saying that it is, quote, ‘The worst possible thing that thug would ever want to hear,’ is incredibly dangerous.
It legitimizes use of a slur that is often linked to violence against our community. And it sends a message that it is OK to attempt to dehumanize people by exploiting anti-gay attitudes.”
Update: It looks like GLAAD won’t be getting that apology they’re asking for. In fact, it’s Perez Hilton who is asking for one for victimizing and criticizing him! Here’s what he sent TMZ:
“I am saddened GLAAD chose to victimize me further by criticizing me for how I non-violently dealt with a very scary situation that, unfortunately, turned violent. While I doubt I will get an apology from GLAAD, nor do I expect one, I would just hope people know how difficult it is to intellectualize a situation and think rationally when a thug disguised as a musician is screaming at your face and intimidating you. I am just very fortunate and grateful that nothing more serious happened to me.”
Who will get the apology they are asking for? We may have to wait an eternity for this one.

Andy Murray in Fred Perry retro outfit for Wimbledon 2009 (pics)
Jun 23rd
Andy Murray begins his quest for Wimbledon 2009 glory in retro outfits from Fred Perry (photos below). Ironically, the British hope for an elusive crown last won by a Briton in 1936 will be wearing outfits designed by a company named after the last British man who won it, Fred Perry. Will this increase his good luck and thus increase his chances of winning the Wimbledon 2009 men’s singles crown? We’ll find out in the coming days.
The British have good reason to have high hopes for Andy Murray. He is at his highest ranking in his career, world number 3, and with Rafael
Nadal out of the tournament due to injury, he is the second favorite among the men to win the title. Roger Federer still holds the top spot. However, Murray has beaten Federer in most of their recent encounters, and with the home crowd behind him, the Scot may well do it again this time if they meet in the finals.

Wimbledon fashion 2009: Federer’s military jacket vs Muray’s outfit

Andy Murray in Fred perry retro outfits for Wimbledon (photos)
Roger Federer has always set Wimbledon fashion in the past years. His blazers and jackets designed by Nike were always a fashion statement at the tournament. This year, he again debuted a new outfit punctuated by a military inspired Wimbledon 2009 jacket at his opening match yesterday. Today, Andy Murray will have his chance to show off his. It’s a retro ensemble – traditional unlike the modern design of Federer’s. Some say it’s boring, other say it’s just appropriate for the championship. Whatever it is, we hope it will bring him luck this year.

Neda, the voice of Iran protests: Neda YouTube video ( تیوتر )
Jun 22nd
She has been dubbed as the “voice of Iran” after a YouTube video of Neda quickly spread online. Allegedly a 16-year old girl participating the the Iranian election protests, Neda was apparently shot by paramilitary snipers. The video shows her lying on her back on a Tehran street with fellow protester (possibly relatives) frantically trying to save her. It is a graphic clip showing blood oozing from her chest wound. Later, blood started to come out of her nose and mouth as her condition worsened. A few seconds later, she is dead.
There is no information on the authenticity of the video, where and when it happened and who was injured by whom. The only information online right now are based on comments on the video from an anonymous individual who claimed that he was present when the amateur video was recorded:
At 19:05 June 20th Place: Karegar Ave., at the corner crossing Khosravi St. and Salehi st. A young woman who was standing aside with her father watching the protests was shot by a basij member hiding on the rooftop of a civilian house. He had clear shot at the girl and could not miss her. However, he aimed straight her heart. I am a doctor, so I rushed to try to save her. But the impact of the gunshot was so fierce that the bullet had blasted inside the victim’s chest, and she died in less than 2 minutes. The protests were going on about 1 kilometers away in the main street and some of the protesting crowd were running from tear gass used among them, towards Salehi St. The film is shot by my friend who was standing beside me. Please let the world know.
The girl’s alleged death was not reported by the Iranian media (obviously) but was reported by various international media organizations and agencies. I first saw it on CNN after it was shown several times yesterday. At first, Neda’s face was blurred but later broadcasts showed her tragic face in full – signs life slowly leaving her as blood continued to pour from her nose and mouth.
For many of us who have seen this video, her face will not be forgotten. And for the thousands of Iranians involved in the protest, her death has become a symbol of their struggle for justice and truth, and an inspiration to go on.
The video of Neda is too graphic to be posted here. However, you can find a copy at this YouTube page.
Update: Posted below is a video of Neda (now identified as Neda Agha Soltani) during the protest but before she was shot:
