Watch the 2009 French Open live online as Roger Federer battles Robin Soderling in his date with destiny. The Federer vs Soderling live stream from Roland Garros can be seen through justin.tv (webcast below).
Will the Swiss tennis ace finally win French Open title, the crown that has long been missing from his collection of honors in his quest for tennis greatness? Will Federer finally complete a rare career Grand Slam (only five players have achieved this so far) and equal Pete Sampras’ record of 14 major titles? The odds weigh heavily in his favor as he faces
surprise finalist and Nadal conqueror Robin Soderling. But will the Swede spoil the party?
As much as Federer already has done, one French Open championship could forever alter the Swiss star’s place in history. No one knows that better than Andre Agassi, whose 1999 French Open title made him the fifth—and most recent — man with a career Grand Slam, changing the way he and others view his career. “Every surface, every condition, demands something different from you, and also rewards you differently, as well, from the physical challenges that exist, to the mental challenges. It’s highlighted by the fact that it doesn’t get done too often,” Agassi said. Indeed, with all that the Swiss tennis ace has achieved, winning the French Open will only solidify his claim as the greatest.
Federer was ranked No. 1 for a record 237 consecutive weeks, until Nadal overtook him last season. He won Wimbledon (played on grass) and the U.S. Open (hard courts) five consecutive times apiece, and the Australian Open (hard courts) three times. All that’s left is to add “French Open champion” to his resume.
Almost everyone is pulling for Federer to get his first. They all know how near he’s come, losing to Spain’s Rafael Nadal in the past three French Open finals and the 2005 semifinals. Let’s watch the French Open 2009 live online and root for Roger Federer as he makes a date with destiny.
