murray retro outfit fred perryAndy Murray begins his quest for Wimbledon 2009 glory in retro outfits from Fred Perry (photos below). Ironically, the British hope for an elusive crown last won by a Briton in 1936 will be wearing outfits designed by a company named after the last British man who won it, Fred Perry. Will this increase his good luck and thus increase his chances of winning the Wimbledon 2009 men’s singles crown? We’ll find out in the coming days.

The British have good reason to have high hopes for Andy Murray. He is at his highest ranking in his career, world number 3, and with Rafael
Nadal out of the tournament due to injury, he is the second favorite among the men to win the title. Roger Federer still holds the top spot. However, Murray has beaten Federer in most of their recent encounters, and with the home crowd behind him, the Scot may well do it again this time if they meet in the finals.

Andy Murray in Fred perry retro outfits for Wimbledon (photos)

Roger Federer has always set Wimbledon fashion in the past years. His blazers and jackets designed by Nike were always a fashion statement at the tournament. This year, he again debuted a new outfit punctuated by a military inspired Wimbledon 2009 jacket at his opening match yesterday. Today, Andy Murray will have his chance to show off his. It’s a retro ensemble – traditional unlike the modern design of Federer’s. Some say it’s boring, other say it’s just appropriate for the championship. Whatever it is, we hope it will bring him luck this year.
