Manny Pacquiao for President after boxing, after Hatton!?
I was reading some online reports on the upcoming Manny Pacquiao vs Ricky Hatton fight when I came across this article by Tim Thalberg on Yahoo Sports containing the following paragraph:
A Hatton win might not be quite enough to shock the world, but it would deal a blow to the Philippines, where Pacquiao is such a national hero that there is talk about him running for president when he gets out of boxing. But while the Pacman was always huge at home, it wasn’t until he stopped De La Hoya that many in boxing began giving him his due as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the game.
Manny Pacquiao for President? No way, Jose! Sure, Manny is revered in our country and is considered a living hero by a majority (not all, mind you) of the populace because of the honor he has brought to our country. But as president of the country? Definitely not! Whoever gave Mr. Thalberg that information is seriously mistaken because I have not heard of that one before. Manny Pacquiao didn’t even win the congressional seat he was aiming for in the last elections, and that was in his own hometown!
