Another ‘Pinoy Pride’ Moment
I know American Idol season 7 is over and much have been said and written about it, but please allow me to squeeze this in.
Renaldo Lapuz. I had almost forgotten about him. He who was the ’sensation’ of the eliminations, the pride of Pinoys. He who made many Filipinos squirm in embarrassment at first upon seeing his antics broadcast worldwide. He who composed and sang that ridiculously popular ‘We are Brothers Forever’ entry, producing countless versions and remixes in the process. He who captured the Pinoy’s attention even before Ramiele Malubay entered the scene. Yup, and somehow I predicted in one of my comments somewhere that I felt he would be given a spot in the finale.
I was right! There he was on stage in the Kodak Theater, singing his (in)famous composition with gusto, eliciting both laughter and awe from a worldwide audience. I couldn’t help but feel proud. Sure, his was considered a weird act, feathers and all. But it
was a well-applauded act as well. He made us laugh, he made Paula and Randy dance, and yes he made us proud.
Thank you, Renaldo.
